Ingredients You’ll Need to Make Peach Sweet Tea
PEACH SIMPLE SYRUP: You will be using frozen peaches in this recipe, which can be a real timesaver and perfect for when you make this syrup out of season. You will also need water and granulated sugar.
TEA: Any black tea will work in this recipe, such as Lipton’s, Earl Grey, or loose leaf. You will also need water for brewing the tea and more to add to a pitcher.
EXTRAS: You will need a juiced lemon, to add more flavoring to the tea and baking soda. The baking soda might sound weird but it removes some of the more bitter notes of the black tea and leaves it smooth and sweet.
How to Make Peach Sweet Tea
Jump to RecipeSTEP 1 Start by making the peach simple syrup. In a small saucepan, simmer the water, peaches and sugar for about 10 minutes and then let the syrup cool for 30 minutes. Strain the syrup but keep the fruit to use later- it’s sweet and delicious!
STEP 2 Using a teapot or other pot, bring the water for the tea to a boil. Take the tea/pot off the heat, add the tea bags and let it steep for 5 minutes. After five minutes, squeeze the tea bags to release every last drop of tea and then discard the tea bags.
STEP 3 Bring out a pitcher and pour in the tea and the remaining water. Stir in the lemon juice, peach simple syrup, and baking soda, and refrigerate for 1 hour.
STEP 4 Jazz up your sweet tea with more peaches and some sliced lemon before pouring it into glasses filled with ice.
Tips & Tricks
- When making the peach simple syrup you should end up with about 1 1/2 cups of syrup and you can use 1 cup of syrup to lightly sweeten the tea or the whole 1 1/2 cups to make a typical sweet tea. If you want to make simple syrup without the peaches, simply simmer 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar together until the sugar dissolves. Then let it cool and use it as directed.
- Using Lipton tea bags will give this sweet tea a more classic, iced tea taste and the Earl Grey tea will provide a smoother, lightly floral, black tea taste. You really can’t go wrong though with whichever you choose, it’s all refreshing! Regardless of the type of tea you use, don’t let it steep longer than 5 minutes or it’ll become more bitter and less enjoyable. Don’t enjoy strong tea? Use 2-3 tea bags instead.
- Are you using loose-leaf tea? For this recipe you can use 1 tablespoon of loose-leaf tea per bag of tea, so 4 tablespoons for a full-strength tea and less for a weaker tea.
- Ready to take this tea to the next level? Add 1 cup of your favorite bourbon to the pitcher of tea (or 1 ounce to each glass) for the ultimate summer cocktail! The bourbon peach tea is some serious summer magic, so this is one idea you don’t wanna skip!
Peach Sweet Tea FAQ
What are the benefits of drinking Peach Sweet Tea?
Besides being cooling and refreshing, sweet tea can help keep you hydrated, which is important on hot days. Staying hydrated has a lot more benefits than people think; when you have enough water in your system it flushes stuff out better and more regularly, which is good for keeping your organs healthy, especially your heart and liver. Black tea also contains antioxidants, which can help repair damaged cells or prevent damage to cells, and can potentially lower cancer risks.
Is it ok to drink sweet tea every day?
As with everything in life, moderation is key. Sweet tea is made with black tea, which contains caffeine and can have adverse effects, such as interrupted sleep and headaches, if too much is taken. Everyone has a different level of tolerance so use your best judgment as to how much you should drink each day.
